About Hiroshima Kaki Dokoro Taishu Sakaba Baketsu Tatemachi

Hiroshima Kaki Dokoro Taishu Sakaba Baketsu Tatemachi is the kind of place I like to introduce when someone asks where locals actually eat in central Hiroshima. Tucked away on the second floor at Japan, 〒730-0032 Hiroshima, Naka Ward, Tatemachi, 5−7 Gハウス 2F AB室, this izakaya-style spot feels casual, lively, and comfortably no-frills from the moment you walk in. The atmosphere leans toward a classic taishu sakaba vibe, so it’s easy to settle in, chat, and snack without any pressure to be fancy. What really stands out is how the food and drinks are designed for sharing, making it perfect for after-work meetups or relaxed nights with friends. You’ll see small plates moving across the bar, glasses clinking during happy hour, and a steady rhythm that carries well into the late evening. The menu pairs especially well with beer, cocktails, and wine, and there’s always something that works whether you’re just grazing or ordering a few dishes to fill the table. I also like that the bar serves food directly, which adds to that interactive izakaya feel and makes solo visits just as comfortable as group outings. Service options are flexible too, with dine-in as the main draw, while takeaway and delivery make it easy to enjoy the flavors at home when the night runs long. Beyond the drinks, the late-night food selection keeps things going without feeling heavy, and the happy-hour offerings encourage a relaxed pace where conversations stretch naturally. Being in Tatemachi, it’s easy to drop in between shopping or bar-hopping, and the crowd often mixes regulars with first-timers who quickly blend into the room. The energy stays friendly and unpretentious, with staff moving smoothly behind the counter and the sound of laughter and plates setting the tone for a night that unfolds at its own pace while flavors and drinks keep circulating around the tables casually.

The place has a cozy vibe and the price is very reasonable - not too noisy nor smelly despite it allows smoking. Highly recommend for someone who wants to have a tipsy good night. Also their oyster fried rice is great!

We heard that Hiroshima is famous for outstanding oysters, so we came here to find out if that’s true. We tried raw oysters as well as a variety of grilled ones, and it was phenomenal—so good that we ordered a second round. Thank you!

Oh my Buddha!! I’d never think to put black olive with oysters but I loved it. We had a variety plate - each - 6 different toppings, & a plate of 6 fried oysters & fried chicken / nanbam - all was spectacular. It’s a smoking restaurant- for people who smoke, but the cigarette smoke wasn’t overpowering. I’ll be telling my chef son-in-law about these options to bring some variety to Australia.

Visited on Thursday around 11:30am. It is on the 2nd floor and first door to your left :) barely anyone then came 12pm it was completely full! The raw oysters are so cheap and delicious compared to the states Dx and their oyster fried rice, I got like 6 cooked oysters xD the fried rice was a bit too salty but still delicious :) The waitress is super nice and spoke English to me since I can’t speak Japanese. She even packed my food for to-go even though they don’t do that so nice!!!! I was a bit disappointed at the green tea cocktail. I was expecting being overwhelmed with the taste of green tea and didn’t at all :( I drank it all though So I got two raw oyster, fried rice oysters and the green tea cocktail. Everything totaled to be 2000 yen around $14. Still cheaper than USA I had so much leftover from the fried rice so it will be my second meal or will be my dinner xD This is a will come back next time!

Amazing local izakaya that specialises in oysters. Very fresh and a variety of flavours or styles to choose from. Everything is very reasonably priced and staff were very friendly and accommodating. There is a QR code ordering system that can be used with Google Translate if you can't read Japanese. Highly recommended while in Hiroshima. So good that we went two nights in a row! And so good that I came back two years later again to have another sumptuous oyster feast! I strongly recommend getting their grilled oysters with six flavours as that's the highlight every time, and also the fried oysters with their house made tartar sauce!

We didn’t have reservation and luckily we were there before the store opened so we got seated without waiting. The food is great and was impressed by the fried rice - so good! Limited English accessible, online menu has English version, minus one star because the smell lingering on the clothes is pretty heavy, make sure you are okay before you want to dine in. One drink per guest is required.

What a terrific place! Being from the spacious west of the US, we are so not used to looking up to find restaurants. But we saw a group of business people in suits rushing up the narrow stairway clearly on their way to lunch. We followed, and boy am I glad! We sat at the counter (nice dropped footwell for us Westerners unaccustomed to sitting on the floor) We ordered grilled oyster sampler (6 pieces), oyster fried rice, and fried oysters (6 pieces). Each course was so delicious! And it was the right amount for two. Do not hesitate to seek out this wonderful spot!!

Fantastic place to get oysters! We ordered a bucket of 6 raw oysters, oysters ajillo (oysters and vegetables cooked in a skillet of garlic oil) and sweet and savory oyster over rice. Every dish was delicious but my favorites were the raw oysters and oyster over rice. Oysters were plump, fresh, delicious and a great deal. Service is also wonderful and the waitress very kind. Would definitely come back!
